These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the KnowRoots website at knowroots.org and any associated pages, content, and interactive features, including the personality quiz (collectively, the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
KnowRoots (“KnowRoots”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a youth-led social enterprise documenting and sharing the indigenous cultures, heritage, and wisdom of Asia. The Site is provided for educational, cultural, and informational purposes.
All content on the Site — including text, research, articles, field notes, the personality quiz and its archetypes, names, logos, graphics, illustrations, photographs, video, audio, music, design, layout, and code (collectively, the “Content”) — is owned by KnowRoots or its contributors and licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may view and share links to the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not, without our prior written permission: copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, modify, adapt, translate, sell, license, or create derivative works from any Content; use any Content for commercial purposes; or remove any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices. The “KnowRoots” name and logo are trademarks of KnowRoots and may not be used without permission.
Much of our Content concerns the living cultures, traditions, and knowledge of indigenous communities. This material is shared with the consent and collaboration of those communities and is intended to foster understanding and respect. You agree not to use, reproduce, or represent any cultural content in a manner that is disrespectful, misleading, exploitative, or that misappropriates indigenous heritage. The communities featured retain all rights in their own cultural expressions.
You agree not to: use the Site in violation of any applicable law; attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site or its systems; introduce malicious code; scrape, harvest, or data-mine the Content; interfere with the operation of the Site; or use the Site to harass, defame, or harm others.
The personality quiz is offered for reflection and engagement only. Its results are not scientific, diagnostic, or professional advice of any kind. Any text you write in the quiz’s reflection step is processed entirely within your own browser and is not transmitted to, collected by, or stored by us.
The Site does not require an account and does not collect personal information through forms. For convenience, the Site stores small preferences locally in your browser (for example, your most recent quiz archetype and your music on/off preference). This data stays on your device, is not sent to our servers, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may process basic, non-identifying technical request data (such as IP address and browser type) as part of delivering the Site.
The Site may link to or embed third-party websites and services (for example, social media, video, or image platforms). We do not control and are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of those third parties. Links do not imply endorsement.
The Site and all Content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, KnowRoots and its members, volunteers, and contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, goodwill, or profits, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Site or any Content.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless KnowRoots and its members, volunteers, and contributors from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the Site or your breach of these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be revised. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
